Meetings

Brisbane Daytime branch meets at a different venue around the Brisbane area each month.  We meet on the 2nd Friday of every month, except for January. Check the events calendar for details of the next meeting.  We start with morning tea at 9:30am, followed by a meeting and discussion at 10am.  Please bring your morning tea, lunch and a chair and wear a hat and sensible walking shoes.  Visitors are welcome.

Members

Our aim is to discover and investigate places of interest to our members, that have remnants of native bushland or have native plantings or landscaping, We also visit interesting native gardens and the homes of group members. In fact, we will go anywhere interesting to see native plants in our area.

Interesting places

Because we have no fixed meeting place, we are always looking for new and interesting places to visit. Many of our group have amazing native gardens and are happy host meetings at their place. Some of these gardens have been in the Open Garden Scheme and are truly amazing. There is always something to share and learn on these home visits. Most of our meetings are held in the Great Outdoors in all parts of Brisbane. Some of our meeting places in the last few years include –

  • Purga Nature Reserve near Ipswich
  • Kholo Botanical Gardens
  • Abbey Museum, The Abbey Place near Bribie Island
  • Karawatha Forrest, Acacia Rd, Karawatha
  • Redcliffe Botanical Gardens, George St, Redcliffe
  • Springwood Conservation Park. Light Street off Jardine Dr, Springwood,
  • Capalaba Regional Park, Pittman Rd Capalaba
  • The Boondal Wetlands Park
  • Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, off Ashmore Rd

Projects

Every year our group is responsible for a display at the SGAP Spring flower show at Mt Coot-ha Botanical Gardens.

Many of our members are also part of a propagation group that meet at Chatswood Hill Primary School on the 1st Thursday of every month.

We also participate in the running of NPQ functions whenever needed.

History

The inaugural meeting of this branch was held on Friday, 12th July 1996. Brisbane Daytime branch was formed because of a perceived need for a group to meet during the daytime to accommodate the needs of retired people, those with young children and those who do not like travelling at night. The inaugural chairman was Jan Glazebrook, with Fran Bright as Secretary.
